We Still (2025)
A radio caught between stations; a woman's voice breaks through the noise—"don't be sad; we still have a chance"—a fragment of consolation from somewhere I couldn't see, spoken to a grief that wasn't only mine. Around it gather insects from the world and birds that were never alive, the real and the fabricated overlaid. Beneath everything, a single sustained tone stretches until hearing itself grows uncertain. Repetitions, reverberations; then a slow descent, sinking to the seabed. We stand, we rest, we lie down to sleep in between our dreams. We wake—distant birds, an echoing sadness—and gradually, gradually we are falling in, to the soft ground of moonlight.
